Step 1: Restoring Perfection with a 2-Step Paint Correction

We began the process with a thorough wash and decontamination to strip away any surface grime, bonded contaminants, and previous waxes or sealants. With a clean slate, we dove into a 2-step paint correction .

Bringing Back the Brilliance: 2019 BMW 440i Gets the Full Gtechniq Treatment

There’s just something special about a well-maintained BMW 440i. With its aggressive styling, low stance, and a turbocharged inline-six under the hood, it’s a car that deserves to look as good as it drives. This particular 2019 model came into the shop showing some signs of wear—nothing too crazy, but swirl marks, light scratches, and general dullness were definitely stealing some of the car’s shine. The owner wanted to bring it back to showroom condition and keep it protected for years to come, so we put together a package using some of our favorite products from Gtechniq.

Step 1: 2-Step Paint Correction

Before we could lay down any coatings, we had to tackle the imperfections in the paint. The 440i’s Snapper Rocks Blue Metallic paint looked great from a few feet away, but under proper lighting, it told a different story—fine swirls, water spots, and a few heavier scratches, especially around the trunk and doors.

We started with a 2-step paint correction, which is a combination of a cutting stage followed by a polishing stage. The cutting stage removed deeper defects using a compound and a more aggressive pad, while the polishing stage refined the finish to bring out maximum gloss and clarity. This process isn’t rushed—we spent hours carefully working each panel until the paint looked like liquid glass.

Step 2: Crystal Serum Light + EXO V5

Once the paint was corrected, we prepped the surface for protection. First up: Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light, a ceramic coating known for its chemical resistance, hardness, and gloss. It bonds incredibly well to the paint and forms a durable barrier against road grime, bird droppings, and UV rays. It’s essentially the “base coat” of protection and delivers up to five years of performance when applied correctly.

To take things a step further, we topped it with EXO V5, Gtechniq’s slick, hydrophobic top coat. EXO adds even more depth to the gloss while dramatically improving water behavior—rain, washes, and rinses just bead up and roll right off. It also adds a slickness that feels fantastic under a microfiber towel and helps repel light dust and dirt between washes.

The result? A deep, candy-like shine that almost looks wet, even when it’s dry.

The finishing touch was the wheels. BMW’s OEM wheels love to collect brake dust—especially with performance pads—and the 440i’s rims needed some attention. After a full decontamination and deep cleaning, we applied Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour.

C5 is a high-temperature ceramic coating designed specifically for wheels and calipers. It creates a barrier that resists brake dust buildup and makes cleaning much easier. Now, a quick rinse and a gentle wipe are all it takes to keep these wheels looking freshly detailed.
